THE COUNTRY GENTLEMEN
“Matterhorn” is a folk-inspired song that tells the story of four climbers attempting to conquer the famous mountain. As they face challenges and setbacks, the lyrics convey a sense of determination and bravery. The haunting melody and poetic lyrics create a powerful listening experience. When The Country Gentlemen performed it at Carlton Haney’s 1971 Labor Day Bluegrass Festival in Camp Springs, NC, Doyle Lawson had just joined the band.
