UNSPOKEN TRADITION
“Katie and Burl”
DESCRIPTION:
Unspoken Tradition’s guitarist Audie McGinnis recalls frequently visiting the local music venue “Leatherwoods” in Shelby, NC as a kid. It was in the back of an old comic book store that opened into a listening room. Audie’s dad was friends with the McMurry boys from the band Acoustic Syndicate, so he and Audie would visit every time they played at Leatherwoods. “Katie and Burl” from the band’s first album was one of the first songs that Audie learned on guitar. Steve McMurry, who originally wrote the song, even came to sing the last verse on this cover.
