Songs of Our Grandfathers
DESCRIPTION:
Songs of Our Grandfathers highlights the musical heritage of duo Zoe & Cloyd and their unique take on modern roots music. It’s inspired by their grandfathers’ musical histories in bluegrass and klezmer music. Natalya’s grandfather, David Weinstein was a Jewish klezmer musician who emigrated from Ukraine to New York by way of Argentina. John’s grandfather, Jim Shumate, was a pioneering North Carolina bluegrass fiddler. Zoe & Cloyd delight audiences with soaring harmonies and heartfelt songwriting. They seamlessly combine original bluegrass, klezmer, old-time and folk with sincerity and zeal.
“Up and At ‘Em” is a lively instrumental tune written by Jim Shumate, a renowned bluegrass fiddler and John Cloyd Miller’s grandfather. The song features impressive fiddle skills, accompanied by a driving banjo and guitar rhythm. The upbeat melody and energetic pace of the song make it a perfect choice for dancing or lifting one’s spirits. It was one of Jim Shumate’s favorites to play.
