Fred Jerkins Tops Billboard Year-End Gospel Chart
December 17, 2019
GRAMMY Award-winning songwriter and acclaimed producer Fred Jerkins can claim yet another accolade to his ever-growing mantle—now a #1 Billboard chart-topping artist.
With Billboard‘s release of their 2019 year-end charts yesterday, Fred Jerkins earned #1 on the Top New Gospel Artist of the year chart—which includes previous winners Koryn Hawthorne (2018), Todd Dulaney (2016), and Casey J (2015). “When I got the news, I screamed in disbelief—to accomplish this is so amazing!” reacted Jerkins upon receiving the news.
Jerkins released a compilation album titled A Project of Healing in September 2018, which was birthed out of an ambition to increase cancer awareness, empowerment and education. Apparently, these expectations have been exceeded. With Jerkins as lead artist, the compilation also features Bishop Paul S. Morton, Darwin Hobbs, Damita, Alexis Spight, Y’anna Crawley, Joann Rosario-Condrey and many more.
“Knowing what this project means to me and to see all that is happening from it—a #1 single on all 3 gospel radio charts, getting life-changing feedback from people on how A Project of Healing has impacted their life, and now this. What could be next?” added Jerkins.
“Victory” feat. Last Call from A Project of Healing also landed on Billboard‘s year-end charts, taking the #6 position on the Gospel Airplay Songs of-the-year chart and #23 on the chart for Hot Gospel Songs of-the-year.
After the announcement, Jerkins took to his social media accounts to thank his fans, friends and family for their support of A Project of Healing—notwithstanding a plug for fan votes for the upcoming Stellar Awards.
As a celebration of Jerkins’ honor from Billboard, Syntax Creative has dedicated their All Gospel Music playlist to Fred Jerkins and his A Project of Healing album.
