It warns of being misled by money and fame, pointing to the Gold Rush era as a world where not everyone could just “join the club.” The idea of showing up and immediately making it big was unlikely. Instead, it emphasizes staying true to your identity, values, and work ethic when working toward your goals, lest you lose your sense of purpose.
