In 2020, Lowry watched with deep sorrow as friends tore each other to apart on many cultural and political issues. The phrase “The right side of history” was claimed. While reading Dostoevsky’s masterpiece The Brothers Karamazov he was struck by the line “I believe like a child that suffering will be healed and made up for.” He labored over music and lyric using this phrase. Can a song change the world? Perhaps not. But it might spark healing.
