Troy Engle wrote “Back Home” with buddy Bill Whyte. He had written the first few lines, and was thinking about folks like his dad. Troy’s father left the mountains and hollers and some family behind to try and make a better life. There’s a longing in those folks to go back home, but no way for them to make a living there. “We still want to go back in time and smell mama’s cooking in the kitchen and go fishing with daddy one more time,” says Engle.
