“Don’t Wash Away Our Home” is based on the events of the 1940 flood in the Appalachian Mountains of Western North Carolina. Cloudbursts, torrential rains and landslides claimed millions in damage and a few lives. “One of many hard times the good Lord saw our people through, says Mikel Laws.
