DESCRIPTION:

“Life I Left Behind” illustrates the tether between Bluegrass and the railroad. Bassist Tim Surrett draws from his own history—his father’s 30 years on the Norfolk Southern Railroad—recalling how sometimes he’d join his father to ride all night. He couldn’t help but notice a mysterious romantic quality about the freedom of the rails. That freedom, though, is conflicted by the life left behind, capturing the restless friction between what might await out there and what we already know.
