“Cannonball” by The Hi-Bridge Band is a lean, funky soul-jazz instrumental built around groove, space, and dynamics. Dense bongos and congas ride over a drum pocket, while flute and baritone sax enter in sparse phrases that leave plenty of breathing room for the rhythm section. The centerpiece is Blair Krivanek’s guitar, which moves from tightly controlled funk into a fiery lead that gives the recording its biggest lift. Kevin Gastonguay’s B3 adds warmth without cluttering the arrangement.
